HOW DO YOU MAKE AN AERIAL YOGA SWING?

yoga hammock is a vital piece of equipment used in aerial yoga. Thus, it is also known as an aerial yoga swing. It is highly durable and mostly supports the weight of up to 2,000 pounds. Primarily, it uses silk for comfort against the body. Despite that, it is one of the most valuable assets for anyone looking to revolutionize their yoga practices, especially beginners.

What Is Aerial Yoga?
It is a practice in which the techniques of yoga are fused with Pilates exercises. Often, the users take the support of the yoga hammock for different postures and stances.  It is a great way to reap the benefits of the two different types of exercises in one, such as:
  • Spinal traction, or relief in spinal compression by acting against the gravity, naturally.
  • It also offers zero compression possibilities for any stance reducing the load from the body.
  • You will achieve a sense of balance by hanging on the yoga hammock.
  • As it combines the stretching techniques, you will relieve your entire body, including joins and muscle, from tension.
  • Often, it requires you to use body weight. Hence, you will develop better strength and control over your body.
  • Overall, it offers full-stretching opportunities and boosts flexibility.
More importantly, aerial yoga is a great selection for beginners who have trouble balancing themselves. Often, there are stances that are challenging for beginners. However, with a yoga hammock’s support, you can easily perform exercises such as a downwards facing dog.

Now, you can certainly buy a yoga hammock from the market. However, this article is about DIY (Do-it-yourself). So here is a simple way to make an aerial yoga swing:
Get The Sling Ready
  • Select The Material:
First, you need to select the material for your yoga hammock. Standard market swings come with silk or reinforced fabrics. Therefore, you have to make sure to get nylon or polyester that can support at least twice your body weight. Once you are used to aerial yoga, you can opt for a more elastic material.
  • Determining The Measures:
Your yoga hammock should be at least twice the length up to your ceiling. A single strip measuring should be at least 60 inches wide. However, you can extend it to up to 180 inches.
  • Loop & Sew:
Adequately, you will have to turn the selected length into a hoop. It can be done easily, but that is not the main part. The attention should be focused on the ‘joining’ part of the loop, or the area that will retain the loop shape. Here, you have to use a sewing machine with a reinforced thread for durability. Otherwise, the thread may break, and the loop will open, leading to injuries. Once you are done sewing, your yoga hammock is almost ready.
  • Hang & Hook:
Now, you will need to get an I-beam integrated into the respective ceiling area where you want to hang your swing. It will prevent the fabric of hammock from getting damaged. Significantly, use a locking carabiner of high strength to reinforce the stability of the hold.
So now you know how simple it is to create a yoga hammock by yourself. However, these are in no way as high-grade as the standard selections available in the market. So, if you are looking for a quick solution or DIY for short-term use, these are a great choice. Otherwise, it is better to purchase yoga hammock in the long run.
